This may sound like a self plug (and it is!) but podcast transcription helps podcasters to – monetize, reach wider audience (hearing impaired and other readers), SEO and article marketing, guest posting, ebook publication, etc to name a few.

Results will vary – how big your audience is, method of monetization, how old your blog/website is, how popular your podcast is, etc. But it’s easy to see why podcast transcription helps. Audios are not indexed by search engines, text is. With your keywords mentioned over and over in your podcasts it’s easy to assume SEO benefits and free traffic from search engines. Easy to share and quote and link to and from blogs. Monetize with affiliate links and Adsense-like programs.

Recently a client had me transcribe his podcasts which were then converted to PDFs for his paying customers (membership site members) who perceive the PDF transcripts as premium products in themselves. Using ID3 Tags for Your Podcast

Hopefully, your podcast is going to be widely distributed. It can be distributed via your website, someone else’s website, sites such as iTunes, and more. Because of this, it is important to understand and edit the ID3 tag that gets distributed along with your podcast.

Podcasts are distributed as MP3 files. These types of files contain information about the content, such as the author, known as the artist, the album, the genre, and more. You may think that since you are not trying to become a rock star that this information really doesn’t matter. But it does.

You see sites such as iTunes, and even software such as Windows Media Player, display this information on the user’s end. They even use the information to organize the MP3 files on the user’s machine. This is your opportunity to share vital information with your listeners, to help them keep your podcasts organized on their machines, and more.

Regardless of how your listener obtained your podcast, you want them to know where it came from. So, obviously, you want to include your website address in the ID3 tag. You also want them to know who the author of the podcast is, so it should include your name, and possibly even your company’s name. This is one way to get them to visit your site to listen to more of your podcasts. There is additional information that can be added, but at the very least, the ID3 tag should contain your name and you’re URL!

You can change the ID3 tags before you upload it. Just right click on the file, and choose properties. The ID3 information should be under a tab called ‘additional information.’

If for any reason you can’t edit it in that way, edit it with your media player or iTunes player. Highlight the file, right click, and select Get Info. You can fill in the information here.

Also, don’t forget to include the title of your podcast, the date, and possibly some related keywords. This will not only help with SEO, but it will make it much easier for listeners to organize your podcasts.

OpenSkyVideo.com is a blog by two Emmy Award winner Karen Yaeger. She also has a free ebook, How to Create & Share Quality Video without Spending a Fortune.

Just invest some of your time on these two blogs to improve your audio or video recordings for your blogs to turn your mediocre podcasts into awesomeness!

Blogging for the Hard of Hearing and Deaf

Are your podcasts falling on deaf ears?

You certainly have a good reason for podcasting instead of writing. You’re more comfortable doing videos and audios than writing blog posts. You cannot bring the liveliness to your writing that you have in your videos or audios. You like the fact that people can download your podcasts and listen to them whenever and wherever they may be. Perhaps, it’s a more interactive medium for you.

But the thing is, if you don’t have enough text content your podcasts might be falling on deaf years.

People who are hard of hearing or deaf might be interested in the subject of your blog. But without text (article) they have no way of enjoying your podcasts. They can see you but cannot hear you.

It is therefore wise for you to transcribe your podcasts and post them for the hard of hearing and deaf. Or, you can outsource transcription of your podcasts to a transcriptionist.

Transcriptionist will charge you a nominal amount for the transcripts of your podcasts. Transcripts will allow you to reach a wider audience – not to mention the hard of hearing or deaf.

Writing content, researching, commenting on other blogs, doing design tweaks on their blogs, managing their Facebook and Twitter profiles and updating them regularly, checking out the competition, checking email, checking analytics and studying the keywords used by people landing on their blog, writing an ebook, helping another blogger, participating in forums, etc etc.

Imagine that!

That’s what you’re doing every single day without one thought about delegating some or most of those to assistants.

Bloggers and online entrepreneurs have a million things to do; and some keep doing all those things themselves.

Unfortunately, they are not very good with delegation.

For bloggers and online entrepreneurs everything about their online endeavor is personal and therefore difficult to let go. Yes, money is also tight but it’s the losing control part why they find it hard to delegate.

Hence, often they spread themselves thin.

They often don’t have the time and energy to focus on the most important stuffs for their business. Therefore, the quality of their products, be it blog posts, ebooks, videos, audio podcasts, etc are not as good as they should’ve been. The result is that, most of them do not become as successful as they should be or earn not enough money as they should earn.

The solution here is not to work hard or spend more time on the business.

The answer is: delegation.

And, outsourcing is another word for delegation.

Most people are shy about outsourcing their tasks offshore. Mostly, because of political reasons.

But it’s the prudent who takes advantage of the world being one global village.

Identify what people are looking for. Ask yourself if you can provide solutions to their needs. If they are looking for free know-how, can you quench their thirst for knowledge? Align this need with your capability.

Build your site

Buy yourself a domain name and web hosting to host your site/blog. This is your real estate online. This is your domain. Design your site to appeal to your potential customers. Or, simply start with a clean theme and build on it.

Build your community/fan/loyal subscribers

Value your community. They are your business. Ask them for directions when you falter. Never shy from admitting mistakes – you will make a few, too. Be genuine and caring. Provide value to your loyal customers.

Build your brand

Be unique. Differentiate your site design, content/products and your personality. Shout out your USP for all who care to listen. Spread your message everywhere (eg. Blogs, forums, twitter, etc).

Sell your goods

Remember to sell your goods. That’s the reason you are in business in the first place.
